Antique netsuke of an old man sitting with a fly-scaring tool. Beautiful patina and markings on the ivory. The face and other parts have wear from the usual touch. Edo period. CITES lists it as 19th century but it is possible that it is much older given its appearance. It also has a stamp on the base. Early netsuke were often used as seals to sign official documents by their owner, giving them an extra practical use. A very rare and wonderful piece. Edo period early 19th century. Comes with certificate of appraisal and CITES document.
