Beautifully and magnificently carved netsuke in the shape of a skull. It is an exceptional work with a fantastic quality representing memento mori. The skull is worked with shibayama inlay with mother of pearl and amber and other semi-precious stones to represent various insects coming out of the skull or on the skull. Carved in ivory with signature of the author on the base “Matsuyama”. Meiji Period. Comes with certificate CITES document.
