Beautiful shishi in wood from Edo period. The shishi is a mythological animal resembling a mongrel between a dog and a lion, symbol of protection, it is usually represented at the entrances of the temples. Nice patina and imotoshi. Signed. Mobile ball inside the mouth as tong.
