A beautiful 19th century copper tsuba signed with shakudo (gold and copper alloy) rim and reliefs depicting a carp with eyes set in gold. A unique work of art. Koi carp are highly appreciated in Japanese culture and one of the favourite motifs of many arts, however tsuba with this motif are very rare and uncommon and therefore highly prized among collectors. More than that, this piece is of a very high quality and comes with a certificate from the NBTHK, the world’s most important association for the preservation of the Japanese sword, which declares it as a piece of special preservation and cultural interest.
