Spectacular Long tanto attributed to “Echizen Shimosaka” with horimono in a deluxe koshirae with NBTHK Hozon certificate. Also includes shirasaya and sunagi blade. This piece has it all. A great antique blade with beautiful Hada veining and a hamon full of nuances, without a blemish. A magnificent horimono, somewhat worn by the polishing that has been done over the centuries of a Fudo, a mythical protective character and a bonji or sacred word in addition to a groove or bohi. The blade belongs to the early Edo period and has been passed from generation to generation for centuries sheathed in a precious koshirae of the highest quality, with pieces of gold and silver on shakudo (gold and copper alloy) in an exquisite combination. It also includes a luxurious kozuka with signed blade, inlaid with gold and silver on shakudo. The tanto was purchased along with an elegant plate helmet with its original box and NBTHK certificate in a private collection from a major dealer in Japan that was buyed to antique museum.
