Elegant mumei katana from the Edo period, accompanied by a complete koshirae and its original shirasaya with torokusho registration. The blade, measuring 68.4 cm in length with a 1.4 cm curvature, displays a well-defined notare-midare hamon, gracefully undulating along the edge and reflecting the precision of an accomplished smith. The hada shows an itame grain with visible surface activity, evidence of meticulous forging.

The koshirae is a model of subtle refinement:

Saya in deep black lacquer (kuro urushi) with a smooth, mirror-like finish.

Kojiri matching the saya, polished and minimal.

Sageo in black silk tied neatly around a golden kurigata.

Tsuka wrapped in black ito over white samegawa (ray skin), with silver menuki depicting dragons among clouds, and fuchi-kashira with a sophisticated basket-weave motif.

Tsuba made of iron, delicately carved with bamboo branches and a bird in flight, enhanced by subtle gold and copper inlays — a work of refined naturalism.

The overall impression is one of balanced restraint and timeless elegance, where the monochrome koshirae enhances the visual prominence of the blade. The inclusion of the plain wooden shirasaya underscores the sword’s dual identity — both as a functional weapon and as a preserved art object.

It is worth noting that certain fittings of the koshirae may be of contemporary restoration or reproduction, though crafted and integrated with remarkable skill and subtlety, preserving the authenticity and harmony of the ensemble.
