Edo Period

General description

Authentic Japanese samurai armor from the Edo period, preserved as a complete and well-matched set. The components show clear aesthetic and technical coherence, with lacquer, lacing, and antique textiles consistent with the period.

The overall appearance is balanced, dominated by dark lacquers, blue lacing, and red-orange details.


Kabuto

Zunari kabuto made of dark-lacquered iron, with a smooth bowl and compact profile. The top features natural hair covering, traditionally integrated.

The multilayered shikoro is well proportioned, with blue and red-orange odoshi, evenly preserved.


Hanpō

Hanpō face guard, red and black-lacquered, protecting the chin and cheeks, leaving the upper face exposed.


Dō (cuirass)

Okegawa-dō cuirass constructed from horizontal dark-lacquered iron plates. Blue lacing is well arranged and consistent with the rest of the armor.


Sode

Medium-sized shoulder guards with lacquered plates and blue odoshi, finished with orange accents. Well proportioned and evenly preserved.


Kote

Armored sleeves with kusari (mail) sewn onto decorated antique textile bases, including lacquered forearm reinforcement plates and integrated hand guards.


Haidate

Thigh guards with plates sewn onto antique fabric, following a classical pattern and coherent with the set.


Suneate

Traditional greaves with vertical lacquered plates mounted on textile bases, retaining original cords and structure.


Condition

Very good condition. An antique set with natural wear consistent with the Edo period. Some lacing shows fatigue and minor localized losses, typical for armor of this age, without affecting overall stability or presentation.
