Blade Description

This katana features classical proportions, with a 67.7 cm nagasa and a well-balanced 1.3 cm curvature, resulting in an elegant and functional profile.

The hamon is clearly visible and continuous, restrained in character and consistent with quality Edo-period workmanship.

The jihada can be subtly observed under oblique light, indicating a properly forged traditional blade, with no evident fatal flaws.

The nakago displays an old, natural patina, a single mekugi-ana, and a clearly recorded signature corresponding to the smith. Overall wear is honest and consistent with an authentic Japanese sword.

Koshirae (Mounting)

The sword retains its complete koshirae, enhancing both its historical and aesthetic value.

  • Tsuka: Dark blue tsuka-ito with natural age-related wear; genuine samegawa visible.

  • Menuki: Antique metal fittings with appropriate patina.

  • Fuchi-kashira: Finely worked metal set with traditional motifs and deep patina.

  • Tsuba: Iron tsuba, simple and functional, with stable oxidation.

  • Saya: Black lacquered saya with traditional kojiri and well-fitted koiguchi.

Context

This katana signed by Ōmi no Kami Sukenao is an authentic Edo-period Japanese sword, legally registered and preserved with its original mounting.

It is not a decorative piece but a functional historical weapon, with visible wear that confirms its age and authenticity.

A strong and honest example suitable for serious collectors or specialized display.
