Authentic Japanese nihonto sword of the edo period in koshirae. Part of the koshirae, like the saya belongs to the saddles used in WWII, tsuba is from edo period. This was common among the old samurai families at the beginning of the war. They bequeathed their old weapons as they were precious objects that were passed down from generation to generation and very expensive to their sons who went off to war as authentic old swords were much better than the mass-produced ones that were usually made to arm the soldiers at that time. So we are in front of an authentic historical piece not only with samurai past but as an object of the second world war. The koshirae have a tsuka lacquered in black. This was customary in swords of much use to protect the elements such as wood and cotton from rotting by rain and mud. The blade has several superficial scratches but not too many traces of rust. A great piece for collectors of both samurai art and WWII. A piece with a lot of history.
Not hagire and not fatal damage, of course. This is a japanese weapon so have a real historical value. This is a weapon with centuries, not machine crafted so can be minor movements of saya, tsuka, tsuba, etc. Because of dilatation, humidity, etc. and little damages propers of his age like small rust, scratches, etc.
