Sword of exceptional quality made by “Hoju”, from the Late Kamakura or very Early Muromachi. It is enclosed with the certificate hozon of the NBTHK, the society of preservation of the most important Japanese sword in the world that certifies the smith and quality. The sword is in excellent condition considering it is over 600 years old. Characteristic forging due to the tamahagane steel and the layered folding that shows its beautiful jihada with patterns similar to tree bark, something classical from the Hoju smiths. The sword is Ubu, i.e. it retains the full distance of the nakago or tang and was never shortened or adapted, something very common during the Edo period, which makes it an incredibly valuable piece.

It also has a bohi or groove that makes it much more aesthetic and mounted on an elegant and very old handachi koshirae with incredible details like the gold still inlaid in the fuchi kashira or the samegawa of genuine stingray leather that has been polished and painted with gold, which denotes a high quality craftsmanship reserved for the best forged swords and for the highest ranking samurai or feudal lords, this sword undoubtedly belonged to an opulent and important person of that time. There are some little cracks and repair in the saya as logical by the time, seems repaired too, not very noticiable one time exposed.

Blade is in very good condition due to aging. Not hagire and not fatal damage, of course. This is a japanese weapon so have a real historical value. This is a weapon not machine crafted so can be minor movements of saya, tsuka, tsuba, etc. Because of dilatation, humidity, etc. and little damages propers of his age like small rust, scratches, etc. Sold as is.
