Fantastic katana from Early to mid Edo period signed “肥前國源宗次作 hizen kuni minamoto munetsugu saku” in koshirae. The quality of the sword as well as the koshirae are magnificent. The Koshirae is of the handachi type with all the match elements in copper, both in the tsuka and in the saya. Tsuba in very old iron. As it differs from the rest of the koshirae it is possible that this one is older and would have been kept for sentimental reasons. It was common to pass elements such as parts, weapons and armor from generation to generation. The koshirae is in a magnificent condition, it is very beautiful and original, rare and it would have been a very expensive custom work at the time. The sword is in very good condition with the hamon clearly appreciable and the patterns of the sword.
