Beautiful sword from Muromachi era with NBHTK Tokobetsu Hozon high rank certificate. It is rare to see swords of the muromachi period with this type of certificate as most of them did not have such an exceptional quality as many that were made during the edo period where the aesthetic art and quality were more important than the funcinality. It comes with the shirasaya and the koshirae. The Koshirae is composed of an iron Soten style tsuba. The soten school was very important during the whole Edo period and was characterized by representing samurai scenes in open work on iron with inlays of other metals as it is the case. The saya is entirely wrapped in stingray skin and lacquered and consists of a kojiri and a kurigata in buffalo horn. The tsuka is made of bronze fuchikashira with gold inlays and genuine stingray skin. While the tsuba belongs to the early Edo period, the saya and tsuka are more modern, but with top quality materials. Probably because in very old koshiraes it is usual that some pieces are broken or destroyed by combats and time. For example, a saya made entirely in stingray leather can exceed 1000 euros.
