Precious early Edo period mumei sword with an elegant suguha hamon and polish in very good condition showing the patterns and colours of an authentic Japanese sword. Mounted on a koshirae also from the Edo period with exquisite details such as the fabulous kashira with equestrian motifs and great relief. The magnificent menukis in the form of dragonfly and hare are wonderful work, especially the hare in shibuichi with exceptional quality. The beautiful tsuba in iron with gold plated copper inlay or the spectacular habbaki with a very elaborate design, something very, very rare except in high level swords as the cost of making a habbaki of this quality was terribly expensive at that time, a real work of art. A beautiful nihonto on a high quality antique koshirae preserved in very good condition.
