About the Kabuto:

Kabuto Uege Edo period. 植毛兜 Uege Kabuto involves adorning the helmet bowl with strands of bear, wild boar, yak, and horse hair, giving the impression of natural growth.

The bear hair encompasses varieties from both black bears and polar bears, with the latter and yak hair being imported, thus commanding a high price during its time. For every samurai, possessing such costly and scarce items is a cherished desire.

The application of these hairs addresses issues of dryness and humidity within the helmet, while also providing insulation for warmth or cooling effects. Sporting such a helmet imbues the wearer with an aura of bravery and valor.
