Magnificent gusoku armor with a great combination of colors and elements in great condition despite the passage of time. Despite its simplicity, this armor has a very peculiar detail that makes it very special. The helmet probably dates from the Sengoku period or early Edo period (circa 1600) and it seems that the rest of the armor was built from it. The Zunari style kabuto has a very special thickness and is tremendously heavy, more than twice as heavy as many helmets of the same style of the Edo period, and has an extra peculiarity, it seems to have been hit with a rifle bullet (teppo) used during the Sengoku and Edo period. These weapons were brought by the Portuguese and Spanish and were welcomed first by Oda Nobunaga and then by the rest of Daymios for their effectiveness in combat. From then on the arms race changed completely as only the best armor could withstand a bullet. On the right side of the helmet you can see a dent that undoubtedly coincides with one of those bullets making this armor a great collector’s item. In fact, many pieces of armor were tested after manufacture by the craftsmen to demonstrate the great capabilities they had by firing directly on the piece.
