Toen de mooie danseres Higaki bijna honderd jaar oud was, werd zij gevraagd water te putten voor een edelman, waarna zij hierover een gedicht schreef. Na haar dood werd haar geest gedwongen herhaaldelijk water te putten met een gloeiend hete ijzeren emmer, waarbij zij zich aan de inhoud verbrandde.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3213\" data-end=\"3612\">N\u014d-maskers maken al lange tijd integraal deel uit van Japanse religieuze rituelen, festivals en het theater. Zij stellen historische figuren en geesten voor, aangeduid als <em data-start=\"3385\" data-end=\"3391\">kami<\/em>, die hun oorsprong hebben in de inheemse geloofsovertuigingen van Japan.
