This blade is signed 則広 (Norihiro) and the certificate itself classifies it as 新刀 (Shintō), an Early Edo period work. From a market and collecting standpoint, the 保存刀剣 (Hozon Tōken) designation provides formal support for authenticity and preservation value, placing the piece squarely within serious, collectible standards: a sword recognized for its legitimacy and quality as worthy of preservation.
Technical description of the blade
A shinogi-zukuri katana with a well-balanced silhouette and moderate curvature, lending itself to both practical mounting and a clean aesthetic reading. The hamon is crisp and continuous, showing a bold notare-midare character with broad, well-defined undulation, standing out clearly along the ha. Within the ji, a fine forging texture can be appreciated, consistent with a tight-grained itame-hada, most evident in the close-up views.
The nakago displays a stable patina, with one mekugi-ana and a clearly legible 則広 signature. Overall, the photographs present a visually compelling blade, with strong hamon definition and a confident presence both in hand and on display.
Technical description of the koshirae
The sword is presented mounted in a koshirae of sober yet powerful character. The tsuka is wrapped in black ito, with samegawa showing through the diamonds; menuki appear in a gold-toned metal, adding subtle highlights beneath the wrap. The fuchi and kashira are a focal point, worked with a dragon in high relief in iron and rests of gold (a classic motif of strength and protection). The tsuba, of maru-gata form, features openwork karakusa (scrolling vegetal arabesque) with gilded accents that enrich the overall impression without excess.
